• The description of the connection of two ports of different product flow network units in a manner that implies a distance between the two ports that is bridged by a span. Examples might be a flow line from a wellhead to the production gathering facility or the route of a tanker from loading terminal to delivery terminal. The characteristics of the span are unimportant, and only weakly described.
